REACTIVITY & SELF-SABOTAGE

Do you ever feel like you get in your own way? Or, in other words, self-sabotage?

For years I’ve experienced this and, the question of “WHY?” has plagued me. Why am I giving credence to feelings, fueling narratives and acting in ways that don’t serve me? Instead, they actually block me from getting what I want/becoming who I want to be

In my study of the Enneagram and yoga psychology, I’ve found it comes down to fear of two things:

  1. Fear my needs WON’T be met.

  2. Fear my fears WILL COME to life.

Notice how both are geared towards the negative? There’s no inspiration in either. Because of that, I spend most of my time (often unconsciously) anticipating and trying to prevent my fears from actualizing instead of trying to find healthy, conducive ways to get my needs met.

Getting my needs met often leads me to a conundrum. What are my needs and how do I distinguish them from my wants? Add the fact that many of us have grown up dismissing our needs, and receiving validation for it AND/OR experiencing shame for vocalizing them (what to speak of everything in between!), it gets complicated - fast.

Yet, without truly getting in touch with our unique needs, we react emotionally, mentally and physically in ways that often prevent us from getting those very needs met. And there comes the self-sabotage.

After years of trying to figure out what it is I do as a coach, I’m finally able to articulate that: Using the framework of the Enneagram, I work with women, groups of women and women-led companies to answer the question of “Why do I react the way I do?” and stop the cycle of self-sabotage.

THE COACHING PROCESS:

  1. I help you identify what are your unique needs, fears and motivations using the framework of the Enneagram.

  2. Co-create the process of identifying HOW those needs and fears show up in your day to day life through your distinct patterns of reactivity (i.e. overwhelm, intensity of speech, shortness of breath).

  3. Start connecting how each unmet need or fear has a direct correlation with specific emotional, physical and mental reactions (i.e. my body starts to shrink and get small when others don’t pay attention to me).

  4. Help build your capacity to catch your unique patterns of reactivity in real time through mindfulness, breathwork and using the body as a container for grounding. Through this process, a deeper awareness and new way of responding naturally comes forth.
